1 John 2:18-27 Sermon

Apr 6, 2025    Pastor Dan Allen

This reflection invites us to consider the theme of spiritual vigilance, particularly focusing on how the world and others can lead us away from our relationship with God. Through the teachings found in 1 John 2:18-27, we are reminded of the concept of 'antichrists'—those who not only distract but actively seek to pull us from our faith. This passage reminds us that while we live in the 'last hour,' a time between Jesus' first and second comings, we must be on guard against those who deny Christ and those who leave the faith, threatening to lead others astray. John's message emphasizes the need to remain rooted in the truth of Jesus Christ, as false teachings, like those that suggest there are many paths to God or the prosperity gospel, can lure us away. These teachings are akin to paths that lead away from the mountain top, paths that might feel liberating or inclusive but are ultimately misleading. By abiding in the teachings of Christ and listening to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, represented here as our 'anointing,' we find the true way to eternal life. As we navigate our spiritual journeys, we are called to cling to the truths we have learned and trust in the Spirit's guidance to discern truth from deception, ensuring we remain on the path that leads to God.
